University of Nigeria, Nsukka
(UNN) Student Affairs
Department was on Saturday set
ablaze by unidentified
hoodlums.
The fire destroyed property
worth millions of Naira,
including vital documents of
students and the university in general.
An eye witness, who pleaded
anonymity, said that the fire
which gutted the office of the
Dean, Student Affairs of the
university, started early in the
morning of saturday.
"The people who committed
the crime were said to use fuel to set the
place on fire.
"If not for the quick
intervention of fire fighters
from Nsukka office of Enugu
State Fire Service, the fire
could have spread to other
buildings close.
"The fire destroyed computers,
documents and other office
equipment in the office of the
dean of the school student affairs.
"UNN security has cordoned off
the area to bar people from
entering," the eye
witness said
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor
(Administration), Prof Malachy
Okweze, confirmed the incident,
and said the fire was the
handiwork of detractors who
were not happy with numerous
achievements of Prof Bartho
Okolo, the Vice-chancellor of the institutoin.
"It is unfortunate that
somebody carried out such an
evil act by destroying property
of the institution,
"The university will do
everything to fish out the
perpetrators of that evil and devilish act.
'The actions of the detractors
will not deter the present
university administration from
continuing with its good work,"
he said.
The Police Public Relations
Officer in Enugu State, Mr Ebere
Amarizu, also confirmed the
incident and said the police had
commenced investigation into
the cause of the matter.
"The police have commenced
investigation into the fire

Mr Akinbode Agbaoye made the
clarification in reaction to a
petition filed by Lead City University
at the hearing called by House of
Representatives on Wednesday. During the public hearing of
the House Committee on public
petitions, Mr Agbaoye explained
that the NUC has cleared two of
the suspended Universities after
they produced the required
documents found wanting before suspension and that other schools will

WAEC 2012 RESULT,MASS FALIURE RECORDED AS LESS THAN 30% PASSED COMPULSORY SUBJECTS
The statistics of the 2012/2013
West African Senior school
Leaving certificate examination
(WASSCE) conducted in April/may shows that majority of the
candidates who sat for the
examination would be
experiencing shortfalls in major
subjects written in the examination.
In a breakdown of the report by
the Zonal Co-ordinator of WAEC Mr Alozie
N.U it was revealed that A total
of 324,998 candidates
registered for the examination
while 310,077
candidates made up of
168,835 male and 141,242
female candidates sat for the
examination.
The results of 51,876
candidates, representing 16.
73% are being withheld based
on various reports of
examination malpractices.
Statistics shows that 250,487
candidates representing 80.
78% have two credits and
above while 217,161 candidates 70.
03%, have three credits and
above and 180,480
candidates 58.20% have four
credits and above.
Furthermore, 141,167
candidates (45. 52%), obtained
five credits and above out of which
99,750 candidates (32. 16%)
obtained six credits and above.
On the basis of University
admission qualifications passed result, Mr
Alozie disclosed that
A total of 133,507 candidates meaning
(43. 06%) obtained credit and
above in English, while 151,569
candidates (48. 88%) obtained
credit and above grades in
Mathematics. About 62,295
candidates meaning 20.
04% obtained credits in
English language, Mathematics
and three other
subjects.
A total number of 33 blind
candidates sat for the examination out of which 4
candidates representing 12.12%, obtained credits in five
subjects, including English
Language. Blind candidates are always
exempted from taking
mathematics and science
practicals in WASSCE .

list, analysis of statistics reveals
that only 34.4% of the total
candidates shortlisted and who
wrote the U.I Post UTME
screening test scored above average.
According to the release, Only
2,506 candidates meaning 34.4% passed
the post utme screening test,
Out of the 7,287 candidates who
wrote the University of Ibadan
(UI) for the 2012 post-UTME.
There were 163 absentees in the exama.
A release signed by the
University's Director of Public
Communications in person of Mr. Olatunji
Oladejo disclosed that some
candidates who chose Political
Science, Guidance and
Counseling, Linguistics and
African Languages among a host
of other courses scored as low as 10
per cent.
The report also disclosed that
the following three candidates
performed exceedingly well in
the screening exercise They are;
Adedoyin Ibukunoluwa MB BS,
Shuaibu Gideon Enebojo MB BS
and
Adepoju Adekunle Electrical/
Electronics Engineering who
scored 88 per cent, being the
highest mark.
"They were followed closely by
Fashola Oreoluwa MB BS,
Omozojie Samson MB BS and

FUTA,ACE ONDO SUG PRESIDENTS DEAD
An accident who occored last friday as claimed the life of three SUG
PRESIDENTS while many other students sustained injury.This accident
occured
on friday evening when the
Team of Student
Union Government Presidents in
Ondo state were Coming from a
National Program which was
held in Abuja.
The program is said to be the
presentation of an award of honor to the ondo
state governor, Dr Olusegun
Mimiko, and some other eminent
Nigerians by the National
Association of Nigerian Students NANS.
According to the spokesman for
the state police command Mr
Aremu Adeniran, they died in a
lone accident at Emure Ile
junction on the expressway on
Friday night around 8p.m nigerian time. He
added that the accident occured as a
result of over speeding.
Right now 3 S.U.G. President of
three Schools in ondo state namely:
Adeyemi College of Education ACE
(Abiodun Akintola),
School of Mid-Wivery
(Oyinkansola Olootu) and ondo state and Federal
University of Technology Akure
(Dapo Awopegba) have
been confirmed Dead. Othe excos in the bus who sustained injury has

yesterday arraigned before the
Federal High Court sitting in
Enugu for allegedly
masterminding the leakage of
the University of Nigeria Post-
UME question papers which led
to the cancellation of the
examination recently.
Okereke who is an apprentice with
Cheston Agency Press Limited,
Enugu was arraigned before
Justice D. V. Agishi on a two
count charge of conspiracy and
examination malpractice.
He was arrested by the State
Security Service, SSS, in Enugu
about three weeks ago
following a discreet
investigation into the leakage
which was described as a major
embarrassment to the institution.
A Principal Legal Officer from
Enugu State Ministry of Justice
Mr. Anayo Edeh, alleged that the
accused committed the offence
on or before the June 14, about five
days to the examination day.
Okereke was said to have
conspired with one Godwin
Chukwu who ir now at large, to
commit examination malpractice
contrary to section 10 (a) and (c)
of Examination Malpractices Act.
The prosecuting panel also alleged
that Okereke at the same time
and place, with intent to secure
an unfair advantage for another
person delivered to Godwin
Chukwu a question paper
intended to be used for post
JAMB test at the
University of Nigeria, Nsukka
which is contrary to section 1
(b) (2) (c) of the Examination
Malpractices and also Act contrary to

world's examination malpractice
index.
While Speaking in Lokoja during the
launch of campaign to raise
integrity standard in the nation's
educational
system organized by the NOA in
collaboration with Exam Ethics
Marshals International he stated
the situation
has led to the production of half
baked graduates and collapse of
the education sector.
"In May/June school certificate
examination conducted by NECO in which
a total of 615, 010 cases of

shut down by the National
Universities Commission NUC as

accreditation screening process.
The ESUT and ABSU satalite
campuses located in Aba
according to the NUC were
shut down due to poor
